Fighting panic and taking risks

Taipei night view secrets

Visiting Elephant mountain at night is not that special. You get a really sunning view on Taipei at night. And a lot of tourism. In fact it is special but not really nice to go there.

To avoid tourism I planned a thrilling small hike using the unlighted paths and experience the vibrant jungle at night. Yes, that’s quite frightening but at some point I got curious. While taking pictures of Taipei at the top of Elephant mountain I saw a sign to Muzhi Mountain. Half an hour, 1.5 kilometers, dark unlit path until another peak. Go for it. Heading upwards to the platform my feelings were thrilling.
The darkness got more as closer I got to Mountain Muzhi. The path got smaller and the jungle got louder.
I want to give you an impression of my journey:

It is dark. You are alone. Separated from others. Nothing to hear, except the whirring insects.
Wind blows slightly through the huge bamboo. Somewhere a creaking noise. Suddenly a loud rustling right next to me.The leaves move. Thoughts of huge spiders and venomous snakes cross my mind. A slight feeling of panic overcomes me. Something jumps on the path! (Frogs are an often seen animal on mountains like this.)

Okay… now you won’t get scared again

Heading around a corner. Hearing that creaking noise again, closer now, quicken my pulse. A green light dancing behind a fern. I freeze. Firefly.

Second time… but now you are prepared for everything. Only 500 meters left, no problem.

The path got smaller and the darkness swapped over everything. I stumbled and missed a stair. A small hart attack follows combined with a adrenaline kick. Suddenly my beard meets a spider web. Adrenaline rush. Fighting panic. More web in my face and on my arms. Something touches my leg. Fighting panic got harder. Finally I got rid of the small spider web I ran into and the fern tickling my leg.

BUT everything was worth it!

The path ended on the top of the mountain and offered a view I can hardly describe. I think amazing, mind blowing, overwhelming and stunning are the best words to express my feelings. Apart from that a huge feeling of success and happiness that overcame me.

These feelings are the reason why I love to challenge myself, to take the fear, overcome the panic.! To earn things money can’t buy: Emotions, Experience and self confidence.

Blogging is about...

Sun Moon Lake Sunrise Hey and hello! I arrived in Germany about two months ago and had a lot of work and organisation to do. But by now I have enough spare time to share all the stories and pictures from the last three months. For me blogging is something like a diary. Moreover it is a way to share my thoughts and moments with you and anyone who wants to read them, I like the freedom of doing this and I really want to catch up writing again. I will try to give an update every week. A few photos and a relating story. Furthermore the stories will have certain labels, where you can find them. Additional there will be other labels for different locations. Example: "story, Asia" or "story, Germany". I hope you are looking forward to this project with the same thrill of anticipation as I do. See you next week! Lukas

About my last days in Asia

The last part of my journey through Asia Penang Again. The sticky and humid air surrounds me and gives me the feeling of being back “home” in Taiwan. But yet different, because now I am in Penang, where I never would have been without a friend of mine, Micha. He went there for one year and told me some nice stories about the people, food and especially the church he worked in. He made me so curious that I booked the flight from Tokyo.  You may ask yourself why I decided to fly such a complicated route. Geographically it makes no sense, but this route is simply the cheapest one. So I landed in Penang and took a bus to Georgetown, the world heritage part of Penang. One difference I recognized immediately was that this country is a Muslim country. The women were wearing headscarves and it was the first time I saw mosques in Asia. On my first day I explored Georgetown and all the beautiful old buildings. The hostel I stayed in was close to a district called “Little ...
